My Summer Style Guide- How to Dress for the Country

I consider myself a pretty lucky gal to have grown up in the country and even luckier to be spending part of my summer there. I love the wide open spaces, the tall grass, the lovely creatures, the soothing sounds and crisp air. When I go frolicking in the country side I always remember to wear flats, and something with movement. The air moves differently in the country, so you want something with layers or frills so that it catches and dances. And I like the rustic look of the burlap clutch.

Chambray shirt- Old
Dress- My Ma’s old skirt
Flats- Blowfish
Clutch- RACHELelsie
Sunnies- H&M

Are you guys spending some time in a beautiful countryside this summer? Or are you gets strutting in your heels around a chic urban city?

Either way, I hope you’re having fun.

Guest Post by Mademoiselle Meese

Today’s guest post is from Donyel from Mademoiselle Meese! This girl has a super sweet blog with wonderful recipes and photos of her beautifully styled outfits. I’m so happy she could do a little post for me!

I’m Donyel, from Mademoiselle Meese, and I am beyond thrilled that Roxie invited me to help guest post for you on Fabric Strips and Ruby Lips while she is away. Since we’re all aware of Roxie’s love of vintage, I thought I’d plan my outfit around some of my favorite classic pieces.

What I’m wearing:
Blouse: Banana Republic
Jeans: Banana Republic
Trench: Calvin Klein
Shoes: Me Too {old}
Jewelry: Tiffany & Co. and Hadaya

My love for simple clothing stems from one of my favorite style icons, Audrey Hepburn. Her elegant and effortlessly chic style continues to inspire me. Both on and off screen, Audrey Hepburn could often be found in a pair of skinny pants or denim.  As she did, I prefer a dark wash, which is universally flattering.

When it comes to tops, pair your bottoms with a blouse well-fitted to your body type. If it’s too loose, the garment hangs off of you, and too tight shows more of you then should be seen. I prefer them in solid colors, so in this case, I chose a light pastel well suited to spring. The day was chilly so I threw one of my favorite trench coats, a la Breakfast at Tiffany’s.

Although I’m often seen in heels, there’s no denying that a pair of ballet flats are always perfect. They come in many shapes and patterns, so find one that suits you. Never skimp on quality or comfort. Audrey’s favorite was Ferragamo, but be aware that they do not come cheap.

Dressing like Audrey Hepburn is to know yourself and embrace what makes you unique. My personal style really developed when I looked critically at myself. I faced my flaws and played up my assets. And as a result, I have a look that is uniquely “me”.

How would you describe your style?

An Ode to Orange

I was flipping through last month’s issue of InStyle magazine and they did a little spread on the color of the moment and it was Tangerine! Orange is so bright and vibrant with a million wonderful shades, orange can bring life to any outfit. I fell in love with every piece on that page, and yearned to fill my life with orange. But I quickly realized I had already accumulated many orange pieces not only in my wardrobe but in my home as well.

My sweet food dishes I painted for my lovely orange cat.

Fluffy orange towels brighten up my bathroom…and yes that is a table of elements shower curtain (I know, we’re nerds!).

I swapped out my usual cherry red lipstick for a Tutti Frutti orange this season. And I have to say the orange is an odd but lovely change, even if you aren’t on the crazy-orange-loving train I would still recommend giving orange lipstick a go.

Lastly, I have this lovely orange fame that I picked up from the thrift store a few years ago. I keep it by my coffee maker so it is one of the first things I see every morning, not only because the gorgeous colorful frame but also because of the photo I keep inside. See that’s my beloved late Grandmother with bright red hair, and my charming Grandfather. She’s the reason I started to collect orange things, it was her favorite color and having orange everywhere reminds me of her, not that I need much reminder, she had a lasting impact on my life and I think of her daily. You know she was alot like the color orange: vibrant, fun, warm and she filled the room with her presence. My Grandfather said the moment he met her was the moment he knew there was a God. So, I guess this is really an Ode to my Grandmother, who I owe for introducing me to the color orange and all it’s splendors.

much love.

Cloudy With a Chance of Elegance

Hello Dahlings! Okay, okay the title is lame, but my cup of coffee is gettin’ low and it was all I could think of. Sooo, moving on…
It is a pretty gloomy Tuesday and it is sucking all the creative energy out of me. But I think I have something in mind for a DIY later in the week. So for now, I’ll just show y’all my beautiful new trench.

I have never had a classic trench before, and now I can’t imagine my life without one. It’s raining, you throw it on and it goes with everything. This trench is from Joe Fresh, and I got it for only 20 bucks, which is quite a steal. These beige shoes with studs are Blowfish and are amazingly comfortable. Plus I love the contrast of the little studs on the shoes with the classic trench.

I love this sweet little bow on the back.

I found this amazing box purse in a thrift boutique. I think I have a thing for medicine bags cause this is like a mini version of one.

If you are interested, I was featured this week in Chic Steal’s Links of the Week. I feel very thankful that Carly included me on her amazing blog.

I hope y’all are having a good week, and enjoying some summer fun.

much love.
