Come Into My Bathroom, See My Make Up

I got an email from a lovely reader (Thank You Kate!) asking about my daily make up routine. Up until a few months ago my make up routine involved bright red lips, full eye make up and no blush. But I have recently changed it up a bit for a more natural look. So here we go…

Step 1. I always start with a good base. I live in a dry, dry climate so I hydrate my skin is compressed sweet almond oil and a mist toner. And at the end of the day I take off all my make up and calm my skin down with Burt’s Bees pre-moistened towelettes.

Step 2. I use to wear Aveda foundation, but I switched it up and tried the Garnier B.B. cream, which I kinda like. It does really even out my skin tone, but unfortunately it is like a million shades too dark. But it kinda makes me look tan. However, it leaves my skin kinda shiny so I add a little Maybelline Fit Me powder.

Step 3. This is my first ever blush, and I have to say I have been having a good experience with it. I put a little on the apples of my cheeks and brush back to hair line. This is Covergirl Peach Perfection.

Step 4. My eye routine is next to nothing now, I have just been letting my eyes speak for themselves. I curl my top lashes a little, rim the bottom of my eyes with white liner to make them perky and add one coat of mascara to the top and bottom lashes. My mascara is cover last blast fusion, and eye liner is N.Y.C.

Step 5. Lastly I add a little bit of colored lip gloss. I switch it up between Cover Girl Naturelux Coral and Anemone. It’s just a nice light color; it’s really good for day and you dont need to worry about it smudging or drying up your lips.

But if I am going out or feeling like my face needs a little more action I will wear a real lipstick, my two favs are Revlon’s Love That Pink or Fuchsia.
There you have it, my quick little make up routine.
What is your make up routine like? What is the most important step for you?
I hope you guys had a lovely hump day.
much love.
An Ode to Orange

I was flipping through last month’s issue of InStyle magazine and they did a little spread on the color of the moment and it was Tangerine! Orange is so bright and vibrant with a million wonderful shades, orange can bring life to any outfit. I fell in love with every piece on that page, and yearned to fill my life with orange. But I quickly realized I had already accumulated many orange pieces not only in my wardrobe but in my home as well.

My sweet food dishes I painted for my lovely orange cat.

Fluffy orange towels brighten up my bathroom…and yes that is a table of elements shower curtain (I know, we’re nerds!).

I swapped out my usual cherry red lipstick for a Tutti Frutti orange this season. And I have to say the orange is an odd but lovely change, even if you aren’t on the crazy-orange-loving train I would still recommend giving orange lipstick a go.

Lastly, I have this lovely orange fame that I picked up from the thrift store a few years ago. I keep it by my coffee maker so it is one of the first things I see every morning, not only because the gorgeous colorful frame but also because of the photo I keep inside. See that’s my beloved late Grandmother with bright red hair, and my charming Grandfather. She’s the reason I started to collect orange things, it was her favorite color and having orange everywhere reminds me of her, not that I need much reminder, she had a lasting impact on my life and I think of her daily. You know she was alot like the color orange: vibrant, fun, warm and she filled the room with her presence. My Grandfather said the moment he met her was the moment he knew there was a God. So, I guess this is really an Ode to my Grandmother, who I owe for introducing me to the color orange and all it’s splendors.

much love.
